It’s a relationship not a transaction. You probably thought that when the Realtor® asked if both the husband and wife, or all parties purchasing the home, were going to be present at the meeting it was because he/she needed the signature of both on the contract. Well… yes and no. Realtors® will need all principles to sign all documents but that’s not the real reason everyone needs to be at the meeting. Realtor® want a relationship with you, both of you. Yes it is a financial transaction but its more about people; meeting people, understanding people’s wants needs and desires, tracking down people’s perfect home, fight for people against competing bids, teaching people how to negotiate through a complicated maze of forms, parsing unfamiliar escrow policies, sorting through stacks for foreign loan documents, and waiting for the unmerciful underwriters with unintelligible “conditions.” Frankly, there is a lot of hand holding during a real estate transaction and you want to hold a friends hand, someone who is concerned about people (You!) AND an expert in negotiating a complicated transaction. The best scenario is when you are finally sitting in your new home, having safely filed all those piles of documents, and you remember your new friend who help you get what you wanted and you send good thoughts their way...until next time.

"We decided in July that we needed to move out of our way too big home in the country, called Jennifer, the next day she showed us a great home, which we immediately bought for under asking price. We then realized that we had not sold our home! So, we listed it with Jennifer on a Friday, she had an open house on that Sunday, and we accepted an over asking price offer the following Tuesday!"
